About Me
I'm Paul Hastings, founder of GPV Marine Services and Surveys and an independent marine surveyor with a practical background in marine engineering and vessel operations.
My career in the marine industry began in engineering and vessel operations, giving me extensive hands-on experience of maintaining, repairing and operating vessels. I've worked with a wide range of craft including motor cruisers, yachts, narrowboats, workboats and commercial vessels.
Alongside surveying, I've worked professionally as a skipper and marine engineer, including operating passenger vessels and commercial craft on the River Thames and beyond. This practical experience gives me an understanding of how vessels are constructed, maintained and operated in everyday use.
I hold a Diploma in Small Vessel and Yacht Surveying and am an Affiliate of the Yacht Designers & Surveyors Association (YDSA) and a member of Marine Survey Associates (MSA). I also hold professional maritime qualifications including RYA Yachtmaster Offshore (commercially endorsed), Advanced Powerboat and Boatmaster qualifications, together with an engineering background.
I undertake surveys of GRP/FRP and steel vessels, including motor cruisers, yachts, narrowboats and commercial craft. My work includes pre-purchase surveys, hull condition surveys, insurance surveys and ultrasonic thickness inspections of steel vessels.
I believe a good survey should be clear, honest and practical. My aim is to explain the condition of a vessel in straightforward terms, identify the issues that genuinely matter and give my clients the information they need to make an informed decision.
